Introduction to the Selected Technology Topic 

I selected telehealth videoconferencing systems because they enhance patient access to care, improve quality outcomes, and promote patient safety. With the increasing demand for remote healthcare, especially in rural or underserved areas, telehealth reduces barriers to timely care while supporting patient-centered practices.

This technology is particularly interesting because it facilitates patients and providers to communicate in real time, enhancing continuity of care and reducing hospital readmissions. I used databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, and ScienceDirect to research this topic. I employed search terms including “telehealth videoconferencing in nursing,” “videoconferencing system and patient safety,” and “telehealth technology in quality care.” This process allowed me to identify peer-reviewed sources highlighting their impact on nursing practice.

AI-powered tools can assist in patient triage, analyzing patient data to prioritize urgent cases and recommend personalized care plans. AI-powered captioning provides real-time subtitles during telehealth video calls, improving accessibility for patients with hearing impairments by converting speech to text (Burrell, 2023). Additionally, AI-driven predictive analytics can monitor patient health trends, enabling early detection of complications and reducing hospital readmissions.

According to Tenfelde et al. (2023), minimizing technical issues and enhancing patient-physician communication are key factors in video consultation satisfaction. AI can address these concerns by optimizing video quality, troubleshooting technical problems, and improving patient engagement. AI chatbots support teleconsultations for nursing workflows by offering instant healthcare information, aiding with routine check-ups, medication changes, and general queries, improving patient engagement, and easing healthcare workloads (Burrell, 2023), allowing nurses to focus on patient-centered care. 

Summary of Recommendation

These publications collectively highlight that videoconferencing in healthcare enhances patient access, safety, and quality of care while supporting interdisciplinary collaboration. VC improves patient outcomes by enabling timely interventions, reducing travel risks, and providing access to specialized care. Effective implementation depends on minimizing technical issues and ensuring high-quality communication between providers and patients (Tenfelde et al., 2023).

Additionally, VC facilitates real-time consultations, collaborative decision-making, and improved care coordination. However, cybersecurity risks and potential barriers to building strong therapeutic relationships must be addressed (Cubo et al., 2021). Organizational factors influencing the adoption of VC include leadership support, communication culture, technological infrastructure, and staff training. Policies ensuring data security and compliance with regulations are critical for protecting patient information. A culture that values innovation and provides ongoing training empowers staff to adopt and effectively use VC technology (Payne & Clarke, 2023).
