The proposal emphasizes the need for Nurse Informaticists (NI) in organizations to reduce errors using CDSS, offer real-time drug notifications, and improve patient safety. 

Nursing Informatics and the Nurse Informaticist

In clinical practice, nursing informatics incorporates the disciplines of nursing, computing, and information technology to oversee and convey information, knowledge, expertise, and experience. It uses technology to enhance patient treatment and medical care provision delivery. It helps nurses manage medical information systems, allowing them to make informed choices that improve care (Nashwan et al., 2025). An NI is a nursing expert skilled in information technology and promotes the appropriate use of modern technology in medical settings.

They train staff on tools and oversee innovations to give data-driven solutions, resulting in improved treatment (American Nurses Association (ANA), 2024). For example, one influential NI is Dr. Virginia Saba, a pioneer in nursing informatics. She formed the Clinical Care Classification (CCC) system to boost the accuracy of care records (Lopez et al., 2023). NI in the hospital would be in charge of designing and installing CDSS to ensure that they are intuitive and satisfy the demands of patients and personnel. They educate staff and assess clinical information to inform decision-making, reduce errors, and boost patient safety. 

Nurse Informaticists and Other Health Care Organizations

 Various United States-based organizations have incorporated NI into their team to improve clinicians’ decision-making abilities by integrating CDSS and offering real-time alerts during medication. This justifies their position in medical organizations as the NIs are critical, shaping the functional requirements of designing, implementing, and optimizing CDSS, optimizing patient outcomes, and decreasing errors with user-friendly systems.

NI can manage health data privacy and safety by working with administrators and technologists to implement evidence-based activities that follow the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), boosting patient safety. NI can conduct regular audits to ensure patient data security while leveraging CDSS in health settings.

Ongoing inspections of access guarantee that only authorized workers have access to vital patient information, thus reducing the possibility of illicit access (Shojaei et al., 2024). Further, to protect patient privacy, NIs can apply multi-factor authentication and encryption methods. Adopting robust authentication and permission mechanisms, like multifactor authentication, ensures that restricted individuals can access patient data (Shojaei et al., 2024).

Opportunities and Challenges

Healthcare teams face many challenges when employing NI, yet these specialists provide opportunities for medical staff. NI is critical in using technologies like CDSS, which support nurses in improving diagnostic precision, optimizing care regimens, and assisting physicians with difficult decision-making (Laraichi et al., 2024). For example, one opportunity is to improve care levels through better data management, CDSS adoption, and evidence-based choices in patient care. With NI’s top-notch technology integration, nurses can apply real-time patient data, prompt alerts, and decision-support tools to optimize treatment plans and prevent medical mistakes (ANA, 2024).

Further, NI offers extensive training, allowing nurses to effectively utilize EHR and CDSS, resulting in improved care integration and precision. However, challenges related to tool acceptance and staff incapability can be addressed by providing awareness and skill training. For, instance, execution and privacy challenges require comprehensive data security processes, including encryption and regular audits (Shojaei et al., 2024). NI collaborates with interdisciplinary groups to improve care outcomes by adopting new tools. NI brings together medical personnel and technological experts, ensuring that clinical advancements meet the care needs.

Second, adding NI to the team will help to provide patient-centered and effective quality care.

According to Nashwan et al. (2025), it helps nurses manage medical information systems, allowing them to make informed choices through data analysis that improves care. Third, NI will guarantee that digital tools, like CDSS and EHR, are implemented under safety guidelines and offer staff training on security practices. Offering training and using security methods like authentication boosts patient data safety (Shojaei et al., 2024). Last, hiring an NI will lead to high ROI by lowering medical errors and effective CDSS integration. Lewkowicz et al. (2020) stated that implementing CDSS reduces unnecessary and duplicate testing, reduces costs, and improves care levels. 

Conclusion

Hiring NI to execute tools like CDSS for better clinical decision-making will streamline workflows. CDSS improves health results and patient safety by minimizing errors. The NI position will encourage multidisciplinary collaboration, maximize tool utilization, and execute data-driven choices. It contributes to increasing the quality of care and enhancing the organization’s reliability in providing precise care.
